About
For the past seventeen years, Louisvillians have heard the gentle baritone voice of Alan Brandt present classical music on the FM airwaves. Alan continues this recent tradition five mornings a week. He is also Classical 90.5’s program director.
Alan grew up on a northern Illinois farm, the youngest of the family’s five children. His interest in radio was sparked by observing his brother, Jim, who is also an FM host. Alan learned his craft at public radio station WGLT in Normal, Illinois while a student at Illinois State University. His musical interests include the immortals with a concentration on the lives and music of Mozart, Delius and Gottschalk. Alan plays several instruments (poorly, he says). His current favorite is the ukulele. (And by favorite, he means “obsession”. He owns 6 ukes!).
His main performance interest is as bass vocalist. He’s sung the bass solos in performances of Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and the Requiems by Mozart and Faure. Alan has toured through England, Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece singing for people in other lands.
Alan’s enthusiasm for music can be heard weekdays from 6 to 10 am.
